Point load strength index test is used for preliminary assessment of the uniaxial compression strength of rocks from determination of the point load index. Test can be conducted on core specimens or irregular rock fragments. Test results shall be used as an index test for strength classification of rock materials during exploratory stages and should not be used for design or analytical purposes.
