Direct shear test is conducted to determine the shear strength of a discontinuity subjected to shear force acting under a normal load. Sample is prepared under the ASTM D5607 standard allowing to a relative movement among the encapsulated upper and lower half of the specimen. Test allows to determine internal friction angle to be used in different geotechnical aspects as underground excavations and rock slopes design.
